VIDEO 11-04. Normal mitral valve. There is a misconception that the anterior and posterior mitral leaflets connect to different papillary muscles. This is incorrect. As shown in this video, both leaflets cross connect to papillary muscles, and they are made to coapt in systole by the contraction of the papillary muscles.
