VIDEO 10-09. Aortic regurgitation jet impinging on the anterior mitral leaflet. Note: There is a misconception that diastolic fluttering of the anterior mitral leaflet on M-mode correlates with severity of regurgitation. It does not. Conversely, the auscultatory equivalent—the Austin Flint murmur does correlate with regurgitation severity. This low frequency mid to late diastolic murmur is found in patients with severe chronic aortic regurgitation.
